Beauty will be an ongoing blog category with the sole intention of offering inspiring images, quotes, and poetry to hopefully bring a bit of joy and inspiration.
Worth the Effort
Recently my husband and I did a fantastic hike on the west side of Mount Hood. The views were stunning, wild flowers filled the open meadows, ravens soared above on the thermals. We couldn’t help but take frequent stops to appreciate and breathe in the beauty that was all around us (okay okay, maybe to catch our breath too!).
Being in the mountains, even for a day, does so much to help me recover and recharge from living in the city (I’m a country girl at heart!). Here is a photo from that wonderful day. If interested, you can read about this hike on the Oregon Hikers website.
“Everybody needs beauty as well as bread. Places to play in and pray in. Where the vitality of the place may heal and cheer and give strength to body and soul alike.”
– John Muir
Personally, I deeply relate to this quote from John Muir. It expresses how I feel about being out in nature and in wild places. John Muir is the founder of the Sierra Club and an extremely significant naturalist and conservationist in the history of this country.
Here is a little more about John Muir from an excerpt of a biographical article published by the Sierra Club:
“He (John Muir) taught the people of his time and ours the importance of experiencing and protecting our natural heritage. His words have heightened our perception of nature. His personal and determined involvement in the great conservation questions of the day was and remains an inspiration for environmental activists everywhere.”
Wild places matter. Nature matters.
Beauty matters.
